In these lines the poet refers to the time when long ago ther lived a frog in a Bingle Bog....a wet marshy land which is dark and dingy...fit enough for only frogs to live.He had the habit of rendering his ugly croaking in a nonstop manner as if to irritate the members of the bog. The use of the word "awn" has been purposely misspelt in order to make it rhyme with the word "dawn".
Vikram Seth has emphasised u[pon the frog's undetered strength which makes him impose himself on the other inmates of the Bog.
